THE GUN HAS NICE METAL WITH CRISP MARKINGS. THE LOCK IS MARKED SPRINGFIELD & DATED 1852. THE BARREL HAS A VP PROOF & EAGLE WITH THE MATCHING 1852 DATE. ALL OF THE METAL ON THE GUN WAS LIGHTLY CLEANED A LONG TIME AGO & HAS DEVELOPED A NATURAL PATINA ON IT. THE GUN HAS NICE WOOD WITH GOOD EDGES. THER IS A LIGHT BUT VISIBLE U.S. INSPECTORS CARTOUCHE ON THE BACK SIDE. THERE ARE SMALL INITIALS ON THE STOCK. IT HAS A GOOD BORE & TIGHT ACTION. IT HAS AN UNUSUAL PERIOD RAMROD IN IT. THIS IS A VERY GOOD LOOKING & CRISP U.S. CIVIL WAR SPRINGFIELD MODEL 1842 MUSKET!

THE GUN HAS GOOD METAL & MARKINGS. THE LOCK IS MARKED "ROBBINS & LAWRENCE/ U.S. & WINDSOR VT. 1849. THE BARREL IS MARKED US AND IS "JAG & P INSPECTED". IT IS ALSO DATED 1849. THE LOCK & BARREL WERE CLEANED AT ONE TIME. ALL BRASS HARDWARE IS CRISP & UNTOUCHED WITH A NICE PATINA ON IT. IT HAS GOOD WOOD WITH AN OLD HAIRLINE IN FRONT OF THE LOCK. A FAINT U.S. INSPECTORS CARTOUCHE IS VISIBLE ON THE BACKSIDE. THERE IS AN OLD COAT OF VARNISH THAT SHOULD BE REMOVED ON IT. IT HAS A GOOD BORE & ACTION. THE RAMROD IS AN OLD REPLACEMENT. THE WOOD CARRIAGE, WHEELS, & CAISSON ARE ALL ORIGINAL. THERE IS SOME ORIGINAL GRAY PAINT STILL LEFT ON THEM BOTH. THE CANNON & CARRIAGE ARE 45 INCHES LONG & 28 1/2 INCHES FROM WHEEL TO WHEEL. THE CAISSON IS 61 INCHES IN LENGTH INCLUDING THE HITCH POLE AND 33 1/2 INCHES FROM WHEEL TO WHEEL. THE WHEELS ON THE CANNON ARE 20 INCHES IN DIAMETER & THE WHEELS ON THE CAISSON ARE 20 1/2 INCHES. THE CAISSON BOX IS 20 INCHES LONG, 10 3/4 INCHES WIDE, & 8 3/4 INCHES DEEP. WHEN HOOKED TOGETHER THE ENTIRE UNIT IS 106 INCHES LONG.
